How to Use the Rescue Disk

If you’re watching this video, your Titanium scan results presented a message:

Additional Cleaning Needed!

You clicked Get Now in the Scan Results window and it brought you to this page for Trend Micro Rescue Disk.

To use Trend Micro Rescue Disk to remove the threats please follow these instructions.

After watching this tutorial, print a copy by clicking “Print Instructions” right above the button you used to launch this video.

The USB Option: To set up Rescue Disk on a USB drive, you will need an empty USB drive that’s 128MB or larger.

Any content that is saved on the USB will be erased during the process.

The CD/DVD Option: You can also use a blank CD or DVD (but not a rewritable disc) instead of a USB drive. In this case, skip steps 1 and 3.

Your computer must be able to burn a CD or DVD for this second option to work.

STEP 1: For the USB option

Before creating a Rescue Disk on a USB drive, switch your computer’s boot mode from CDROM to USB:

Warning: Making a mistake when changing the BIOS settings could make your computer unusable.

Trend Micro cannot take responsibility for fixing any problems that result from editing the BIOS settings.

For more information, visit our Legal Notice page.

To begin the boot device change, shut down your computer.

As soon as you turn it back on, press the DELETE or DEL key on your keyboard.

If this doesn’t work, try the F2 key.

You will see a blue window.

Go to First Boot Device and change it to USB using the arrow keys of your keyboard.

Press F10 on your keyboard to save the settings. Let the computer restart normally.

STEP 2: Run the Rescue Disk tool

After restarting the computer, download and save the Rescue Disk installation file to your desktop.

When the download is complete, insert an empty USB Drive that’s 128MB larger or a blank CD or DVD.

Double-click the Rescue Disk installation file to run it.

In Windows Vista, 7, and 8, a User Account Control dialog appears, asking if you want to allow the program to make changes to your computer.

Click Yes. The License Agreement appears.

Read and accept the license agreement, and then click Next.

Select what kind of Rescue Disk you want to create, USB Device or Blank CD/DVD.

Click Create, and then Create Now in the next window.

Wait as it copies files to your USB device or CD/DVD.

When prompted to restart, click Restart Now.

Upon restart, you will see the Trend Micro Rescue Disk blue window.

Select Remove Threats.

Quick Scan.

Wait as this tool finishes removing the threats.

Once done, remove the USB device or CD/DVD and press the ENTER key on your keyboard to restart the machine normally.

Run another scan using Titanium.

STEP 3: Reset your Computer’s Boot Mode to CD/DVD

When you’re done using the Rescue Disk USB drive, reset the computer’s boot mode from USB back to CD ROM.

To begin, shut down your computer.

As soon as you turn it back on, press the DELETE or DEL key on your keyboard.

If this doesn’t work, try the F2 key.

When you see a blue window, go to First Boot Device and change it back to CDROM.

Press F10 on your keyboard to save the settings. Let the computer restart normally.

If you need additional help, click Go to eSupport on the Additional Cleaning Needed page, or click Get Help From an Expert for phone or chat contact information.

  • Stay out of this garbage if you are using offline scan. When I click on start, it says "unable to connect to cloud server". Zero point zero, Anvi$oft.
